NANYANG JUNIOR COLLEGE

This post is specially for the students who have just completed their O's and is thinking of going to a JC but is unsure of which to choose.
If you ask me, my answer is simple.
COME TO NANYANGGGGGG!
 Why Nanyang JC?
Well, we have the best student welfare, the best teachers, the best facilities and amenities and of the course, the best students who are ever so friendly!
Let me tell you what Nanyang is like! :)

1. Transportation
I believe this is one of the most important factor in your decision-making process. NYJC is located at 128 Serangoon Avenue 3 and we have a "personal" station-Lorong Chuan-which is found on the circle line.
It is sheltered all the way from the entrance of the station to the school! How awesome is that ?! You'll never get yourself wet on a rainy day! So, no worries about bringing an umbrella to school because you won't need it! :)

2. CCAs
From sports to performing arts to clubs and societies, NYJC offers a wide range of CCAs that you can choose from. And if you can't seem to find a CCA that interests you, don't fret! In NY, you can start your own Student-Interest group (SIG)! All you have to do is just to gather some friends who have the same interest as you and then you can set up your own SIG! It's as simple as that! For example, we already have J-FIRE, one of the many SIG who is interested in Japanese related things such as cosplay and anime!

3. School hours
This is one of the best things about NY.
School can start at 7.30, 8.30 or 9.00 depending on your timetable!
Our school runs on a 10-day timetable system where there's week A and week B.
Really, depending on your time table, you can have only ONE 7.30am lesson out of the 10 days!
See how much more sleep you can get!

4. Discipline
Always getting caught in secondary school for inappropriate hairstyle? Not in NY! In NY, hairstyle isn't much of a concern. You can have long fringes and dyed hair (that's not too obvious) and still not get caught. More or less, the management here expects the students to be self-displinced enough to manage our own grooming. So yeah, come to NY if you can't bear to cut it yet!

5.  Facilities & amenities
You guys are lucky batch. Next year, there will be three high elements and one barbecue pit for us! Yes, you read it right. THREE! THREE! THREE! These will be new additions to our college next year!
In addition to these new amenities, our existing facilities are also amazing!
Here, you'll never run out of places to study, eat, slack.

Firstly, there's the large number of tables and chairs available around the school which you can use to study or just catch up with your friends! However, if you really want to mug, you can head to our library on the 4th floor which has a very conducive environment!

Oh, did i mention that our school has a lift which is open to all the students and not only the staff? (Thumbs-up for that!)

Secondly, we have the gym which will be filled with new gym equipment soon! The gym (guys should read this!) is open till 530 or 630 every weekday! You can head there after school or during long breaks to work those muscles! HAHAH!

Thirdly, we have what i like best about NYJC.
GNC!
No, it's not the Health supplement shop GNC but GNC which stands for Good News Cafe!
The food (or rather snacks) are delicious and they have offers everyday!
And if you're sick of the canteen food and GNC, well... That brings me to my fourth point.

NEX! NEX is only a mere 7 minutes walk away from school!
You can head there when you have long breaks to have your meals!
For bubble tea fanatics, there's Drink Tea and GongCha there!
For people who love fast food, there's McDonalds, KFC, LJS, Mos Burger and Subway!
You'll never get hungry at NY! Heehehee.

6. The Teachers
The teachers here will the best teachers you will ever meet! They are kind, patient and will give you consultation as long as you ask for it! I have seen many teachers staying back after school to give consultations to their students even if it inconveniences them. Yes, that's how devoted and awesome they are.
Just ask for help and they'll be ever-so-willing to lend you a helping hand!

7. The Students
To me, NYJC is well-known for one thing-the students.
Students here are friendly, easy-going and very approachable.
You can make friends with practically everyone you meet.
I don't know why, but this is the style of NY students.
We're friendly, crazy, talkative and very bonded as a school.
If you come to NY, you'll never have to worry about being alone or judged, because we're just that awesome!

So, after saying so much, i hope you're swayed over by me and put NYJC as your first choice!

If you wanna ask about the heavy workload in JC because you heard many bad things from your seniors, siblings or cousins, well, it's unfortunately true.
You'll have never-ending work to do. If you're not doing tutorials, you're probably doing PW. If you're not doing PW, you're probably revising for a test. If you're not revising for a test, you're probably catching up on some sleep.
But this sad situation is existent in ALL JCs. It's part and parcel of JC life.
So, don't choose your JC just because you think life there will be much better! It's the same everywhere. BUT, NYJC will make it much easier to take in.

OH! AND PLEASE, DO NOT COMPARE THE JC SYSTEM TO THE POLY SYSTEM!
They're two very different system.
One is a stressful 2-year academic-driven system whereas one is a slightly less stressed 3-year hands-on system.
Eventually, all of us will end up in the same place-the workforce. It's more about the time you take and the skills you have so please do not compare and try to put down whichever you do not choose.

When I was in secondary four, my teacher once said this to me.
"If you're making your choice based on something you want to run away from, then you're not making the right choice. You're just comprising."

After reading this post, I hope you will make the right choice and if you want to go to a JC, come to NY! You won't regret it, i promise. :)
