HELLO EVERYBIRDIE.
So i'm back from my Vietnam Trip (22nd-30th June) where i went to participate in the
5th Asean School Games
I can't really tell you how much i've learned or gained from this trip, but i can tell you, it was worth my 9 days. Really really worth the 9 days.

This year was  very different form the one that i went in 2011 for the 1st Asian School Games  in Da-nang, Vietnam. When i went in 2011, there was only Girls' Volleyball, no Guys', no other sports, it was just us, 12 girls representing Singapore.
So of course, it was not as fun as there was much lesser interaction as compared to this year. But we had much more shopping trips since we were the only team from Singapore and there was no need for "reports" and  such. Still, i prefer this year's trip as the experience i had, was like no other.

This year's games was a busy one. There were 8 teams from Singapore-Badminton, Basketball, Gymnastics, Swimming, TableTennis, SepakTakraw, Track&Field and Volleyball. Though there was Silat, Singapore did not send a team for that sport.
On top of our own teams, there were teams from other countries like Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.
SO, CAN YOU IMAGINE THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE IN THE VILLAGE?
Oh yes, we had a village, the ASEAN SCHOOL GAMES VILLAGE, just like the YOG VILLAGE.

We had a cafeteria where we had our meals,
(ignore us and look at the background)

A hostel for Singapore and some Filipino athletes

(my room had 8 people instead of 4 because one room's aircon didn't work and they crashed into ours for 8 nights...)

And a venue where they held the opening :) and closing :( ceremonies.

I believe we all gained extraordinary experiences that we would never have gained if not for this trip.
Their team spirit, their speed, their spikes, their serves, there was so much that we could learn from them.

Cut the story short, after only 10 trainings together, we set off to VIETNAM, HANOI for the games and i'll just let the pictures do the talking now cos
i'm boring you guys out with all my personal thoughts and feelings.. HAHA.

Another pic before we entered the HO CHI MINH Mausoleum.
Yes, we saw the body of Ho Chi Minh.
And FYI for some of you, Ho Chi Minh is not the capital, it is a city. The capital is where we were at, HANOI.
The city was named after him, Ho Chi Minh.

The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (google it, it's worth your time) was where they kept his body at and we had to walk in two rows and be extremely quiet. when we were in there
It was rather scary yet interesting at the same time to see his preserved body after he died in 1969....

Another photo with qtpie marc!

LAST TEAM PHOTO AS CS TEAM 2013

Well, in conclusion, i can say that this trip has taught me to be more responsible, more independent, more grateful for things that i have and overall made me a better person.
It has also taught me one the greatest thing that i've learned in my 18 years.
"You create your own memories."

Despite the small drawbacks that we had like the scorching heat at 37-39 degrees, the uncomfortable pants we had to wear for competition, the not-very-hygenic food in the cafeteria, i have come to realise that it's not where you go, but it's who you go with

Though Vietnam wasn't really the ideal destination with its terrible heat and lack of some amenities, we still made it a memorable trip,
a trip that i believe all of us will remember 10 years down the road.
